Regular Meeting

November 10, 2008 

 

 

The Tallapoosa County Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting November 10, 2008 at the Courthouse in Dadeville, Alabama at 9:00 a.m.

 

Chairman Shaw called the meeting to order.

 

Commissioner Tapley gave the invocation.

 

Chairman Shaw led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Chairman Shaw called roll.  All Commissioners were present.

 

Public Comment from Other Officials

Larry Scott, Chief Building Inspector, reported a growing problem of mobile homes being stripped for copper and other materials throughout the county. 

 

Consent Agenda

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 14, 2008 meeting.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve purchase orders and warrants.  Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to designate Aliant Bank and RBC Bank as the depositories for the county.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve a Resolution to initiate a Federal Aid Resurfacing Project on Dudleyville Road.  Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Old Business

Commissioner Allen made a motion to table the request from Habitat for Humanity regarding the vacant lot on Semmes Street, pending advisement of Leadership Lake Martin.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Executive Session

Commissioner Allen made a motion to enter into an executive session.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to return to the regular session.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Discussion Items

Commissioner Coley gave thanks for being allowed to serve the citizens for the past ten years.

 

Commissioners Shaw, Tapley, and Thweatt thanked the veterans and all the men and women who serve in our armed forces.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to raise the maximum amount paid for an indigent burial from $75.00 to $500.00.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Announcements

The Courthouse will be closed on November 11, 2008 in observance of Veteran’s Day.

 

Commissioner Coley made a motion to adjourn.  Commissioner Allen seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  The meeting was adjourned.
