May 11, 2009

The Tallapoosa County Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting on May 11, 2009 at the courthouse in Dadeville, Alabama at 9:00 a.m.

Chairman Tapley called the meeting to order.

Commissioner Shaw gave the invocation.

Chairman Tapley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chairman Tapley called roll. Commissioners Coley, Shaw, Tapley, Thweatt and Allen were present.

Public Comments from Citizens

David Jones from the Hackneyville Fire Department thanked the Commission for their support. He also made the Commission aware of problems regarding newpapers littering the roads.

 

Don McClellan representing Moon Wook Kim, CEO of KwangSung America Corp., addressed the Commission requesting that he be allowed to discuss an economic development opportunity with the Commission in executive session. The Commission agreed to amend the agenda and add Mr. Kim to the executive session. Commissioner Allen made the motion. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Public Comments from Officials

Sheriff Jimmy Abbett advised the Commission of a memorial service for law enforcement officers on May 13^th at 11:00a.m.

Consent Agenda

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 13, 2009 meeting. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve warrants and purchase orders. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve a resolution honoring all Alabama firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. Mr. Beck read the resolution. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve recognition of the week of May 10, 2009 through May 17, 2009 as National Police Week. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve transfer of sick leave. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.

Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve the nonparticipation of the County in the State Sales Tax Holiday. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the contract extension of the County Administrator. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.

Executive Session

Commissioner Allen made a motion to enter into Executive Session to discuss pending litigation and Economic Development. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to enter back into regular session. Commissioner Coley seconded motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Discussion Item

District Attorney E. Pau Jones addressed the Commission regarding allowing his office to use the Commission’s T-1 line for internet access at the Alexander City Annex. He also commended the Commission for the work they do.

Commissioner Coley requested that the Administrator look into the pursuit of Energy Efficiency Grants related to the recently passed stimulus package.

Adjournment

Commissioner Allen made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
