Regular Meeting

October 14, 2008 

 

 

The Tallapoosa County Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting October 14, 2008 at the Courthouse in Dadeville, AL at 9:00 a.m.

 

Chairman Shaw called the meeting to order.

 

Commissioner Tapley gave the invocation.

 

Chairman Shaw led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Chairman Shaw called the roll.  All commissioners were present.

 

Public comments from citizens:

Cal Johnson appeared before the Commission to ask for support on amendment #2 on the November 4th ballot.  The amendment would provide for the enforcement of motor vehicle and traffic laws on private roads in gated communities. 

 

Consent Agenda:

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve minutes from the September 08, 2008 regularly scheduled meeting.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  See attachments.

 

Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve Purchase Orders and Warrants.  Commissioner Tapley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  See attachments.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the Material Option for the Dillard Pit near Reeltown. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  See attachment.

 

Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve 040-retail beer (on or off premises) and 060-retail table wine (on or off premises) for Catherine’s Market, LLC.  Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  See attachment.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve the Calendar Year 2009 meeting days. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.  See attachments.

 

Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve the Calendar Year 2009 State Holiday Schedule. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion.  Commissioner Tapley, Commissioner Shaw, Commissioner Coley, and Commissioner Thweatt voted yes.  Commissioner Allen voted no.  See attachments.

 

Old Business: 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to table the request from Habitat for Humanity regarding the vacant lot on Semmes Street, pending advisement of Leadership Lake Martin.   Commissioner Tapley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously. 

 

New Business: 

 

Discussion Items:

David Moore thanked the Commission for the Cost of living increase. 

 

Commissioner Coley commended the Administration and Department heads.

 

Commissioner Coley wants to look at a possible increase for Indigent burial.

 

Commissioner Shaw thanked the Engineering Department and the Commission Department.

 

Commissioner Tapley thanked County Administrator Blake Beck. 

 

Commissioner Thweatt thanked County Administrator Blake Beck.

 

Commission Allen agreed with Commissioner Coley’s concerns about Indigent burials.

 

Commissioner Coley suggested that the Commissioners should research leash laws and other animal issues.

 

Announcements:

 

Commissioner Coley made a motion to adjourn.  Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.
