Special Called Meeting

March 16, 2009

 

 

The Tallapoosa County Commission held a special called meeting on March 16, 2009 at the Courthouse in Dadeville, Alabama at 9:00 a.m.

 

Chairman Shaw called the meeting to order.

 

Commissioner Tapley gave the invocation.

 

Chairman Shaw led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Chairman Shaw called roll.  Commissioners Coley, Shaw, Tapley and Allen were present.

 

Public Comment from Citizens

Dawn Landholm, Principal Planner of the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission, appeared before the Commission.  Ms. Landholm informed the Commission of a project that her group is undertaking for the Census Bureau called the Participant Statistical Areas Program.  She stated they had been asked to update the boundaries for Census Tracts, Block Groups, and Census Designated Places.  She described changes made to the Census Tracts and Block Groups and explained what Census Designated Places are.  She stated that she would stay after the meeting so Census Designated Place boundaries can be drawn on the map.

 

Consent Agenda

Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 9, 2009 meeting.  Commissioner Tapley seconded the motion.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve warrants and purchase orders.  Commissioner Allen seconded the motion.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to reappoint David Moore to the Walnut Hill Water Authority Board.  Commissioner Tapley seconded the motion.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve a contract with Bancorp South for financing of equipment for the Highway Department.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to reappoint Elgin Harris to the Jacksons Gap Water Authority Board retroactive to March 1, 2009.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to authorize Sheriff Jimmy Abbett to submit a pre application for the Cops Hiring Program.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to name Commissioner Tapley Chairman effective April 1, 2009.  Commissioner seconded the motion with an amendment to name Commissioner Thweatt Vice-Chairman.  The motion was approved by all present.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to adjourn.  Commissioner Coley seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously.
