Regular Meeting
April 13, 2009
The Tallapoosa County Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting on April 13, 2009 at the courthouse in Dadeville, Alabama at 9:00 a.m.
Chairman Tapley called the meeting to order.
Commissioner Shaw gave the invocation.
Chairman Tapley led the Pledge of allegiance.
Chairman Tapley called roll. Commissioners Coley, Shaw, Tapley, Thweatt, and Allen were present.
Public Comments from Citizens
Dave Heinzen representing Citizens for Good Government addressed the Commission with a question regarding their compliance with a Judge’s order on the operation of the highway department. All Commissioners advised that they were in compliance.
Dick Bronson representing Citizens for Good Government addressed the Commission with a question concerning the recent sale of some trucks from the highway department. Engineer David Moore answered his question.
Margaret Farrington representing the Tri-County Advocacy Center addressed the Commission concerning the establishment of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. She provided the Commission with some statistics on child abuse in Tallapoosa County.
Public Comments from Officials
Sheriff Jimmy Abbett advised the Commission and Public of the Sheriff Department’s participation in a grant under the Recovery Act: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program: Local Solicitation in the amount of $16,240.00.
Consent Agenda
Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 16, 2009 meeting. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve warrants and purchase orders. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.
Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve a resolution establishing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve transfer of sick leave. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.
Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve financing for the FY2009 Sheriff’s department patrol cars. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.
Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the declaring of the week May 3rd -9th as County Government week. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the resurfacing of a portion of Coley Creek Road retroactive to March 16, 2009. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.
Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the contract with GTL for inmate phone service at the jail. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Attachment.
Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve May as Older Americans Month. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Coley made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
