Minutes – Regular Meeting

 

February 8, 2010

 

The Tallapoosa county Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting on February 8, 2010 at the courthouse in Dadeville, Alabama at 9:00 a.m.

 

Chairperson Thweatt called the meeting to order.

 

Blake Beck gave the invocation.

 

Chairperson Thweatt led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Chairperson Thweatt called roll.  All Commissioners were present.

 

Public Comments from Citizens

 

John Pritchett having requested to address the Commission was not present.

 

John Adcock having requested to address the Commission was not present.

 

Charles Farrow addressed the Commission concerning the Tallapoosa County Historical Society. Specifically he discussed the need for additional space and requested assistance in funding of the acquisition of additional space. He was advised that the Commissioners would take his request under consideration.

 

A gentleman addressed the commission concerning drainage on Green Acres Farm Road. Commissioner Allen and Engineer David Moore advised him that they would review the situation and see what could be done to address his concerns.

 

Public Comments from Officials

 

A group from the Horseshoe Bend Regional Library addressed the Commission to promote the statewide Big Read program. They advised the Commission that The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was the adopted book of the program and passed out literature supporting the program.

 

 

Consent Agenda

 

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 11, 2010 meeting. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See attachment.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve the warrants and purchase orders. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously. See attachment.

 

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the County levy for alcoholic beverages licenses fees. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See attachment.

 

Commissioner Coley made a motion to approve the levy of County property taxes. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See attachment.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve a special event license for the Wild Game Cook Off. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See attachment.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve a request for an employee to be granted an FMLA leave of absence. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See attachment.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the bid for patrol cars. Commissioner Tapley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See Attachment.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve the naming of a County road and private drive for E911. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See Attachment.

 

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve the payment for an indigent burial. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See Attachment.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the final platt for Woods of Long Leaf subdivision. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See Attachment.

Commissioner Tapley made a motion to approve the removal of certain roads from the ALDOT annual maintenance inspection. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See Attachment.

 

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the posting of 15 ton weight limit signs on Moose Road, Walker Ferry Road, Paul Austin Road, Newman Road, Golden Pond Road, and Cedar Creek Road. Commissioner Coley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Commissioner Allen made a motion to approve the appointment of Steve East to the Wall Street Water Authority Board. Commissioner Shaw seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. See Attachment.

Discussion Items

 

County Administrator Blake Beck advised the Commission that the County has been awarded an Energy Efficiency Grant through ADECA for the upgrade of lighting and HVAC at the Courthouse and Dadeville.

Commissioner Shaw made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Tapley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
