Special Called Meeting
January 14, 2005

The Tallapoosa County Commission held a special called meeting January 14, 2005 at the Courthouse in Dadeville, AL at 2:00 p.m. All commissioners were present except District 1 Commissioner, Thomas L. Coley Jr. The Alex-City Outlook was also present.

Chairman Shaw called the meeting to order.

Chairman Shaw gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to award the dump truck bid, bid # 111-FY2005-24, to Alabama Truck Center. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Thweatt made a motion to award the truck tractor bid, bid # 111-FY2005-25, to Alabama Truck Center. Commissioner Oliver seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Oliver made a motion to reduce the speed limit on Tankersley Road from 45 mph to 35 mph. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Oliver made a motion to approve the construction plans for Sturdivant Road, Ashbury Cove Subdivision, and Martinique Shores Subdivision. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Allen made a motion to seek bids for a van to transport inmate workers for the maintenance department. Commissioner Oliver seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Thweatt made a motion to change district worker Josh Collum from part-time to full-time. Commissioner Oliver seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Oliver made a motion to enter into an agreement with the National Park Service regarding the right of way for Horseshoe Bend National Military Park. Commissioner Thweatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Allen stated that the County is still experiencing problems with vandalism of street signs. Commissioner Allen stated that the public needs to get involved with helping solve the problem. The taxpayer's money is being abused.
Commissioner Thweatt stated that trash on the side of the road is also a problem. Commissioner Allen stated that everyone is concerned about the County's money, but that trash and road signs are big issues that hurt the County.

County Engineer, David Moore, stated that the sign machine is almost gone. A new machine is $16,000.00. Commissioner Allen stated that the Commission has waited around on a deal, but that a new sign machine needs to be bought. Commissioner Thweatt made a motion to request bids for a sign machine. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Chairman Shaw announced that the Courthouse would be closed January 17, 2005 for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Commissioner Thweatt made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Allen seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 2:26 p.m.
